West Nile Virus Death Toll Rising

87 people have died across the US from the West Nile virus so far this season, according to the US Centers for Disease Control, and there are 1,993 confirmed cases.  54 percent of these cases are neuro-invasive, or resulting in meningitis or encephalitis.

West Nile Virus Cases Rise 40 Percent in One Week

Detroit, MI:  In 2011, 34 people were infected with the West Nile virus and there were two fatalities.  There have been 80 confirmed cases and five fatalities already this year in Michigan alone.

Texas Declares Public Heath Emergency - West Nile Virus Kills 9

Dallas, TX:  Health officials in Dallas declared a public health emergency after nine people died from the West Nile virus so far this year, stating the virus has become an epidemic.
